Ground Travel
There are two major routes to the beaches of this area:
1. The shorter route from San Jose via Pan-american highway takes you over the Tempisque River Bridge (by the Shell gas station approximately 30 miles [47 kilometers] after the turnoff to Puntarenas leaving San Jose). After crossing the bridge and getting back on the main road take a right following the signs for Nicoya and Santa Cruz. At Belen you will see a gas station at the fork on the left, turn left here and follow the signs to Flamingo, Brasilito, Tamarindo and Potrero. After a hill crossing (app. 20 km) with the first glimpse of the ocean you arrive in Huacas. Here you continue straight through the first intersection that leads to Tamarindo and take your first right after that (1 km). This road will lead you directly into Brasilito, at the Happy Snapper take a right and this road after only 7 min leads to Playa Potrero and Playa Flamingo if you continue straight.
2. The longer route from San Jose is via Liberia. Take a left at the BurgerKIng which is also Liberias main intersection. After about 30 min you will reach the intersection in Belen from which you take a right and follow the directions from above.
