Back Packing/Trekking
Costa Rica’s National Parks are ideal for trekking, although you definitely need a guide if you plan to venture away from well-marked trails.
It's all to easy to get lost in the rainforest, where everything looks the same. Overnight treks can be arranged through local outfitters and a climb up Mount Chirripo is highly recommended for those in excellent physical condition. One can pitch a tent anywhere on the beach, and it is ok to have a bondfire on the beach as well, so budget travellers will find enough places to spend the night for free, and continue trekking for months.
